Focused Ultrasound

What is focused ultrasound?

Focused ultrasound uses precise sound waves to project energy into the brain without the need for an incision or an implanted device. This energy causes focused heating at a target used to reduce tremors. The treatment is performed in an MRI scanner as a same-day outpatient procedure without the need for anesthesia.

The expected outcomes for each treatment option may be unique to each patient. A detailed conversation with the neurosurgeon can outline the risks, benefits, and alternatives of this technique.
